Dropcam
I ran new products at Dropcam, one of the top-selling connected cameras of its era and a company people genuinely loved. It was later acquired by Google for $555M. An early, formative lesson in shipping hardware and software that people actually want.
Build something people genuinely want.
Dropcam won because it made a hard thing simple: plug it in, see your home from your phone, done. Running new products there meant living close to the customer, shipping hardware and software together, and earning trust one honest feature at a time. Those are the same instincts I bring to everything I build now.
Owned new products
Ran product work on new lines, not maintenance on the existing catalog.
Hardware plus software
Shipped in a world where the physical device and the app had to feel like one product.
Loved by customers
Dropcam earned a reputation for being genuinely easy and useful, rare for connected hardware.
Ended in a strong exit
Acquired by Google for $555M, folding into what became Nest.
Build things people actually want.
The habit that made Dropcam work, applied to your product.
